One event at the 2026 Texas Democrat Convention captured the attention of many Texans, not because of a serious discussion about border security, education, or public safety, but because convention organizers are promoting a drag show fundraising event associated with the Texas Stonewall Democrats. The event is being used to raise money while celebrating drag performances as part of the convention experience.
This is more than just another convention side event. It is a reflection of the values and priorities increasingly embraced by today's Democratic Party.
For years, Democrats have insisted drag performances are simply harmless entertainment. Yet they continue to feature them prominently at political events, fundraisers, and public celebrations. Rather than focusing on issues that impact hardworking Texas families, party leaders have chosen to spotlight an event centered on gender performance and progressive identity politics.
Womanhood is not a costume, and men portraying exaggerated caricatures of women should not be elevated as political entertainment. These performances often rely on sexualized humor, absurd sexual costumes, and exaggerated stereotypes that do not reflect the dignity of women or the values held by many Texas families.
The Democrat Party is free to organize whatever fundraising events it chooses. Likewise, Texans are free to judge what those choices communicate about the party's priorities. When convention attendees are invited to financially support a drag show while the state faces challenges involving education, crime, border security, and the economy, many voters will rightly ask whether party leaders are focused on the issues that matter most.
This event also illustrates how LGBTQ activism has become deeply integrated into Democrat politics. Rather than limiting advocacy to policy debates, progressive organizations increasingly make LGBTQ identity and symbolism central features of campaign events and political fundraising. That is a strategic decision, and one that voters should evaluate for themselves.
Texas should continue to promote policies that strengthen marriage, protect children, defend parental rights, safeguard religious liberty, and uphold the biological differences between men and women. We believe public officials should spend their time addressing the real concerns of Texans instead of celebrating performances that many families find inconsistent with their values.
The Texas Democrat Convention's drag fundraiser may energize progressive activists, but it also underscores the growing cultural divide between Democrat leadership and millions of Texans who continue to value faith, family, and moral principles. Texans deserve leaders whose priorities reflect those values, not political spectacles designed to advance identity politics.
