Texas GOP Convention Priorities Reflect the Values of Texas Families

Last week, thousands of grassroots conservatives from across the Lone Star State gathered in Houston for the 2026 Republican Party of Texas Convention. Delegates spent several days debating policy, shaping the party platform, and establishing legislative priorities that will help guide lawmakers during the upcoming 2027 legislative session.

According to a letter sent by newly elected Republican Party of Texas Chairwoman Drinda Randall to the State Republican Executive Committee, party delegates chose eight priorities as top concerns for Texas Republicans. Among them were “Don’t Sharia Our Texas,” “The Complete Elimination of Property Taxes,” “Protect Texas Kids,” and “Protect Life.” These priorities now await final approval by the State Republican Executive Committee. 

For Texas Family Project, these priorities are not new. Since our founding, we have advocated for policies that strengthen families, defend religious liberty, protect children from harmful ideologies, safeguard the unborn, and ensure Texas remains a state rooted in freedom and self-government.

The inclusion of “Don’t Sharia Our Texas” as a legislative priority reflects growing concern among grassroots conservatives about preserving Texas values and ensuring foreign legal systems never supersede American constitutional principles. Texans have repeatedly made clear that our laws should be based on the Constitution and the rule of law, not foreign religious legal codes.

Likewise, the push to completely eliminate property taxes represents a long-standing goal of many Texas conservatives. We believe in lightening the burden on Texas couples to raise a family, and property taxes are a huge challenge for many young families. Texans should never be forced to rent their homes from the government through perpetual taxation.

Republican voters have consistently supported efforts to move Texas toward the eventual elimination of property taxes, and convention delegates once again elevated this issue to the forefront of the party’s agenda. 

The priorities to Protect Texas Kids and Protect Life are equally important. Texas families have made it clear that children deserve protection from harmful influences and that innocent human life deserves legal protection. These issues have been central to Texas Family Project’s mission, and we are encouraged to see them recognized as major priorities by delegates from every corner of the state.

Texas Family Project President Brady Gray attended the convention and witnessed firsthand the enthusiasm of grassroots conservatives. The convention featured numerous speeches, events, and activities celebrating Texas’ conservative principles. One of the most memorable moments was Governor Greg Abbott’s appearance with a massive elephant, a fitting symbol of the energy and excitement that filled the convention hall.

We are grateful for the thousands of delegates and volunteers who participated in the process and helped ensure conservative values remain at the center of the party’s agenda. Texas Family Project also congratulates new Republican Party Chairwoman D’rinda Randall and Vice Chair David Covey on their victories.

Now the focus turns to Austin.

As the legislature prepares for the 2027 session, Texas Family Project looks forward to working with lawmakers to ensure these priorities become more than words on paper. Texans deserve action. They deserve legislation that protects born and preborn children, defends life, safeguards Texas from foreign legal influences, and finally puts our state on a path toward eliminating property taxes.
