What The Quorum Break Means For Texas Families

After weeks of delay, the quorum break is finally over. That means the Texas Legislature once again has the chance to deliver on the promises made to Texas families. But make no mistake, the damage has already been done, and little accountability has been placed on the lawmakers who abandoned their duty.

Legislators should not be able to walk out, break the rules, and then return without consequences. Families across Texas deserve lawmakers who will show up, do their job, and defend our values, not political games that stall critical legislation.

One of the most important bills we’ve been fighting for, legislation to protect women’s spaces, has finally made its way to the House State Affairs Committee, chaired by Representative Ken King. This committee has become a graveyard for many conservative bills, but with a hearing already scheduled, there is hope we can finally push this priority

across the finish line.

Other key issues remain hanging in the balance. These include:

• Reforming standardized testing in public schools so our children aren’t reduced to numbers on a page.

• Ending access to dangerous abortion pills that put both women and children at risk.

• Eliminating taxpayer-funded DEI programs once and for all, so our resources aren’t wasted on woke indoctrination.

  
  

But here’s the challenge: time is running out. The special session is short, and once congressional redistricting is complete, it is highly unlikely Governor Abbott will call lawmakers back for another round. That means this could be our last chance to secure meaningful victories for Texas families this year.

Now is the time to make your voice heard. Texas families cannot afford for legislators to cave in or kick the can down the road. Call your representatives. Tell them to stand strong. Demand they fight until the end to pass this critical legislation. The quorum break is over, now it’s time to deliver for Texas families.
