What Kamala Harris’ VP Pick Means For Texas Families

The recent change with the Democrats and who they would put up as their presidential candidate has led to a lot of controversy. Kamala Harris, who had an extremely low approval rating, was next in line and got the nomination. Since it was so sudden that Kamala Harris got the nomination, she had to quickly pick a running mate to go along with her. The Harris team decided that they would be choosing Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota to be Kamala Harris’ partner.

Tim Walz is unfamiliar to a lot of people outside the Midwest. Tim Walz was born and raised in Nebraska. Walz joined the Army National Guard after high school and got a teaching degree after he returned. In college, Walz met his wife and they moved to her home state of Minnesota. Walz was a volunteer for John Kerry’s presidential campaign in 2004. In 2006 Walz ran for congress and won. Tim Walz was in Congress until 2018 when he ran for Governor of Minnesota and has been there ever since. So what are his actual stances on different policy issues?

Tim Walz has been a massive advocate for the ever-destructive LGBTQ movement. While in Congress Walz was apart of the LGBTQ equality caucus. In 2009 Walz called for the ending of the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that restricted homosexuals from talking about their sexuality while in the military. Walz was also a huge supporter of the “Respect For Marriage Act” which requires all states in the US to recognize same-sex marriage. 

Tim Walz's advocation for the LGBTQ led him down the very real path to the made-up concept of “gender transitioning.” In 2023, Walz signed a bill into law in Minnesota that forces all public schools to put women’s products in men’s restrooms. This earned him the nickname “Tampon Tim.” That same year he also signed a bill into law that makes Minnesota a sanctuary state for child sex change surgeries. The bill also provides refuge and legal protection for people who go to Minnesota to transition their children. It grants the courts emergency jurisdiction if a child comes from another state and allows the courts to make decisions on custody issues.

The most egregious of Governor Tim Walz’s stances is his view of abortion. We knew that Kamala would have a running mate that was as extreme as her when it comes to this topic. Upon the overturning of Roe v. Wade Minnesota was the first state to codify abortion protections into law under Tim Walz. Some are saying that the combination of Harris and Walz makes this ticket the most pro-abortion ticket in history. Kamala said that her goal if she wins reelection was to bring back abortion and her choice of running mate shows that to be true.

The line between the Harris Walz ticket and the Trump Vance ticket is very clear. One side wants your children to be sexualized and is in full support of child genital mutilation while the other wants to protect children. Both of the VP picks came from the midwest presumably because of the battle that will be there come November. Tim Walz's record proves that he will stop at nothing to bring abortion back federally.
