The Nation’s First Detransition Clinic Is Open!

Texas Children’s Hospital has officially opened the nation’s first detransition clinic, fulfilling a major requirement of Attorney General Ken Paxton’s historic settlement with the hospital.
The clinic will provide multidisciplinary medical care to patients who previously underwent gender-transition interventions, including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, and speech pathology. Under the settlement, Texas Children’s will fund the services for five years, allowing patients to receive care free of charge.
The agreement also requires the hospital to pay $10 million to resolve allegations that it improperly billed Texas Medicaid for prohibited gender-transition interventions. Additionally, the hospital must permanently terminate the privileges of multiple physicians and implement stricter compliance measures.
The clinic’s opening follows years of controversy surrounding Texas Children’s Hospital and its treatment of minors struggling with “gender dysphoria.” Whistleblowers helped bring attention to allegations that the hospital continued providing these interventions despite publicly claiming to have discontinued them.
Attorney General Paxton praised the clinic’s opening as a significant step toward protecting children and providing care to those harmed by gender ideology.
Children deserve protection, not experimentation. The opening of this clinic represents an important step toward ensuring that those who have suffered from these interventions receive the medical care and support they need.
