Texas House Candidate Puts On LGBTQ Events For Children

A recent investigation by Texas Scorecard raises major concern in Bell County, where the art studio owned by Democrat Texas House candidate Amelia Rabroker has reportedly hosted a series of LGBT-themed events advertised as being “appropriate” for all ages.

According to Texas Scorecard, Rabroker owns The Art Space of Central Texas in Harker Heights. The studio has hosted everything from pottery classes and empowerment workshops to what Texas Scorecard identified as LGBT-themed events, including stained-glass Pride flag workshops and “Rainbow Pottery Painting Pride and Allies” sessions advertised as suitable for all ages. Promotional materials displayed multiple LGBT pride flags, including lesbian, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, asexual, and pansexual flags.

Children need the freedom to grow up without being pressured to question their biological sex, “sexual identity”, or the traditional understanding of the family before they are developmentally prepared to grapple with those subjects.

That is why the phrase “all ages” should never be treated as a magic shield that makes an event automatically appropriate for children.

If a business hosts a Pride-themed event or displays an array of sex flags, they should have to pay the sexually oriented business fee. LGBTQ events are sexual in nature therefore should immediately qualify for that fee.

For years, the LGBT movement has increasingly sought to move discussions about sexuality and gender into schools, libraries, entertainment, social media, children's programming, and community events.

Texas lawmakers have taken meaningful steps to protect children from sexually oriented performances.

Texas law now prohibits certain sexually oriented performances in the presence of minors and establishes criminal penalties for violations. The statute specifically addresses performances involving sexual conduct and prohibits covered performances when they occur in the presence of someone younger than 18.

That principle is common sense: children deserve protection from adult sexual content.

According to Texas Scorecard, Rabroker responded to criticism of a 2023 Pride-themed event by accusing Christians who objected of “self-righteousness” and “entitlement,” ultimately saying she did not want their business. Texas Scorecard also reported that her public social-media activity has included support for transgender rights and promotion of content presenting gender as something children can choose for themselves.

The answer to a child's confusion should not automatically be more ideology. The answer should be loving parents, stable families, truth, guidance, and age-appropriate boundaries.

The people of Texas should expect more from those seeking public office. Anyone asking Texans for the responsibility of representing them in the Texas Legislature should be prepared to answer difficult questions about their record, their values, and the environments they create for children.
