Last night marked one of the most important evenings of the second legislative session, and Texas Family Project was on the ground to witness history. After months of prayer, advocacy, and grassroots organizing, the Texas House passed two major pieces of legislation to protect women, children, and families across our great state.

Protecting Women’s Private Spaces

The first battle of the day centered on Senate Bill 8 (SB 8) by Senator Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) and Representative Angelia Orr (R-Hillsboro) to keep men out of women’s private spaces. This bill ensures Texas women can maintain privacy, dignity, and safety in restrooms, locker rooms, and other intimate facilities by requiring individuals to use spaces that align with their biological sex.

As expected, the debate stretched across nearly the entire day. Democrats resorted to delay tactics and even attempted to misuse Scripture to undermine the legislation. Representative Rafael Anchia (D-Dallas) tried to twist Biblical truth into a weapon against those defending women in a shameful attempt that fell flat in the face of reason and conviction.

The atmosphere in the gallery was no less heated. Dozens of transgender activists repeatedly disrupted the proceedings by shouting down at lawmakers. Their behavior grew so unruly that Texas DPS officers had to escort them out, and ultimately the entire gallery had to be cleared. Texans deserve civil discourse, not mob-style intimidation.

Despite these distractions, the bill eventually passed. SB 8 passed on second reading, and later that evening, it cleared third reading, sending the bill to Governor Abbott’s desk. This was a monumental moment for every Texan who believes women and children deserve to be protected from radical gender ideology.

Cracking Down on Abortion Pills

Later that same evening, the House took up House Bill 7 (HB 7) by Representative Jeff Leach (R-McKinney), a bill to strike directly at the abortion industry’s newest method of exploiting women: the distribution of abortion pills by mail.

Abortion activists are bypassing Texas law by shipping dangerous chemical abortion drugs into our state from out-of-state providers. These drugs place women at serious risk when taken without medical oversight, and of course, they always result in the death of a precious unborn child. Representative Leach’s bill closes this loophole by banning the trafficking of abortion pills into Texas, making it clear that the state of Texas will defend life at every stage.

The debate on HB 7 was fierce, but in the end, life won. The House approved the bill, and it now moves on to the Senate for final approval. Once passed, this will be another critical step in building a culture of life in Texas and across the nation.

A Day of Endurance and Victory

By the time we walked out of the Capitol around 11 p.m., the exhaustion of a long day was outweighed by the joy of victory. These are the kinds of late nights worth every ounce of effort because the stakes could not be higher! Families, women, and the unborn are counting on strong leaders to stand against the radical Left’s agenda, and last night, Texas delivered.

At Texas Family Project, we know these victories don’t happen by accident. They happen because Texans care enough to show up, speak out, and hold their elected officials accountable. We are thankful for the courageous legislators who stood firm in the face of hostility and chaos, and we are grateful for every supporter who has prayed and labored for these causes.

The Fight Isn’t Over

While we celebrate, we also recognize that the fight is not finished. HB 7 still needs to pass the Senate, and SB 8 must be signed into law by Governor Abbott. The Left will not stop trying to undermine these victories. But we will never back down from the fight.

Texas Family Project will continue to be on the front lines, fighting for Texas families, defending the unborn, and protecting the values that make Texas strong.

Last night was proof that when families unite, when truth is spoken boldly, and when lawmakers stand firm, we win.

TFP is on the front lines for Texas families, as the Left continues waging their anti-family war, and will not back down.
