Texas AG Takes Legal Action Against New York Abortionist

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has once again taken decisive action to defend life and uphold Texas law. As one of the most pro-life states in the nation, Texas refuses to stand by while abortionists violate our laws and endanger the lives of both unborn children and vulnerable mothers.
In December 2024, Attorney General Paxton filed a lawsuit against Dr. Margaret Carpenter, an abortionist based in New York. Dr. Carpenter illegally mailed abortion-inducing drugs into Texas, targeting a resident in Collin County. Tragically, the chemical abortion resulted in the death of the unborn child and caused serious medical complications for the mother. This reckless and illegal action directly violated Texas’ pro-life laws.
This is not uncommon. Abortion pills are always dangerous to the preborn child, but pose a serious threat to the mother if a full medical check is not performed. Abortion pills are only supposed to be used in the early stages of pregnancy due to the size of the child. If the baby is older than the mom thinks or larger than the average size of a baby at that stage, the mother is in horrible danger.
AG Paxton’s office pursued the matter and secured a $100,000 civil penalty against Dr. Carpenter, along with a permanent injunction barring her from continuing to violate Texas law. However, efforts to enforce the judgment have met resistance from officials in New York. The Ulster County Clerk refused to recognize or enforce the Texas judgment, obstructing justice and protecting an out-of-state abortionist from accountability.
In response, Paxton has now filed a petition seeking a writ of mandamus, an extraordinary legal remedy intended to compel government officials to perform their legal duties. This action aims to force New York authorities to uphold the lawful judgment from Texas and ensure Dr. Carpenter pays the full penalty.
We applaud Attorney General Paxton for his unwavering dedication to protecting innocent life and enforcing Texas law. This is exactly the kind of leadership our state and our movement need.
AG Paxton reinforced his commitment in a public statement: “No matter where they reside, pro-abortion extremists who send drugs designed to kill the unborn into Texas will face the full force of our state's pro-life laws.”
Texas has drawn a clear line in the sand: out-of-state abortionists will not be allowed to flout our laws, harm our citizens, or escape justice. With Ken Paxton leading the charge, the Lone Star State continues to set the standard for unapologetic, principled pro-life leadership in America.
