“Sharia Free Texas Caucus” Formed In Texas House

Texas is a state built on the principles of faith, freedom, and the rule of law. For generations, Texans have defended the foundational values that shaped our nation, values rooted in the Christian worldview. That is why the formation of the Sharia Free Texas Caucus in the Texas Legislature is an important and necessary step to protect our state’s future!

Led by State Representative Brent Money (R-Greenville) and a growing coalition of lawmakers, the caucus was created to examine the incompatibility between Sharia law and the constitutional freedoms guaranteed to Texans. According to Representative Money, the caucus will work on legislative proposals that ensure Texas law, and not foreign legal systems, governs our state. 

The formation of the caucus follows overwhelming support from Republican voters in Texas for banning Sharia law. In the most recent GOP primary ballot proposition addressing the issue, roughly 95 percent of Republican voters supported prohibiting Sharia law in Texas. 

Why Sharia Law Is Incompatible With Texas Law

Sharia law is a comprehensive legal and societal system derived from Islamic texts that governs areas such as marriage, speech, finance, dress, and religious adherence. 

Many of these rules conflict directly with the rights guaranteed under the U.S. Constitution. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and equal protection under the law are non-negotiable principles in Texas.

Texas Family Project believes strongly that no parallel legal system should ever operate within our state. The rule of law must remain consistent for all people.

A Growing National Movement

The Texas caucus also follows the creation of the Sharia Free America Caucus in Congress, led by Texas Representative Keith Self (R-McKinney). That effort aims to defend constitutional freedoms and counter attempts to introduce Sharia-based legal frameworks into American institutions. 

Defending Texas’s Christian Heritage

We believe the strength of Texas comes from its moral foundation. Our laws reflect centuries of legal tradition shaped by Biblical principles, human dignity, individual liberty, and equal justice.

These principles are fundamentally incompatible with any legal system that denies those freedoms.

The Sharia Free Texas Caucus represents a proactive effort by lawmakers to ensure Texas remains a place where constitutional law, not religious legal systems, governs public life.

The caucus is expected to expand its membership and begin developing policy proposals ahead of the next legislative session.
