Key Legislation Filed in Texas Special Session

The Texas Legislature has kicked off its special session with a strong slate of conservative priorities on the agenda aimed at protecting the rights of Texas families. Among the most important pieces of legislation filed is the revival of a major bill from the regular session: protecting women’s spaces from the confusion and chaos created by radical gender ideology.

Protecting Women’s Spaces

Senator Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) and Representative Valoree Swanson (R-Spring) have re-filed this critical legislation as Senate Bill 7 and House Bill 32, respectively. These bills seek to preserve biological distinctions between men and women in areas such as bathrooms, locker rooms, and other sex-specific spaces.

For too long, our society has been subjected to the left’s campaign to blur gender lines, erode biological reality, and force Texans to conform to ideologies that defy common sense and threaten public safety. Women and children deserve protection from policies that allow biological males into female spaces! These bills are a necessary step in restoring sanity and protecting vulnerable Texans.

Fighting Against The Abortion Pill

Also filed in the special session are multiple bills targeting the sale and distribution of abortion-inducing drugs. Representative Nate Schatzline (R-Fort Worth) and Representative Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park) have both introduced legislation to crack down on the online and in person sale of dangerous chemical abortion pills. These pills exploit a loophole in current law that endangers both the unborn and the women being sold these drugs. These drugs are technically illegal in Texas, but we lack useful enforcement against those who break the law.

Despite current law, radical leftists continue to seek backdoor ways to undermine the will of the people. These pills are being trafficked into our state with little oversight, and they pose serious health risks. The legislation filed by Representatives Schatzline and Cain mark an important step to stop this reckless and immoral practice.

A Democrat Resolution to Undermine Life

In sharp contrast to these efforts, Democrat Representative John Bucy (D-Austin) filed House Joint Resolution 12, a deeply troubling proposal to enshrine “bodily autonomy” into the Texas Constitution. In practice, this would open the door to legalizing abortion in Texas up to 24 weeks of pregnancy, even after the state has taken a firm stand against this tragic practice.

This resolution is not about rights, it’s about rolling back the progress Texas has made in protecting the unborn and their mothers. It stands in direct opposition to our state’s pro-life values and the will of the majority of Texans.

Banning Taxpayer-Funded LGBTQ and DEI Indoctrination

Many politicians claim DEI has been banned in the state of Texas, but this is untrue. Representative Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian) who is leading the charge on this issue, filed House Bills 170, 171, and 172 to address this major problem. Two of the bills relate to higher education offering taxpayer funded indoctrination programs to students. The other bill addresses any and all state agencies from allowing these harmful programs to exist. We applaud Representative Harrison for standing strong on this fight!

Looking Ahead

Unfortunately, recent special sessions have a history of great opportunity to to make a difference, but very little usually actually happens.Texas Family Project is committed to keeping the pressure on and showing up in Austin to fight for families. We urge you to call or email your elected officials and tell them you expect them to  help move these bills  through the process to become law. We have the opportunity right now to protect families, and it would be shameful to have another wasted session!

Stay engaged and keep the pressure on—these are the fights that shape the future of our state.

TFP is on the front lines for Texas families, as the Left continues waging their anti-family war, and will not back down.
