Ken Paxton Officially Secures Massive Settlement Against Child Transitioners

The recently finalized settlement between Texas Children’s Hospital and Attorney General Ken Paxton is a historic victory for children and families. The agreement will create the nation’s first-ever detransition clinic, permanently halt prohibited gender-transition procedures on minors at Texas Children’s, require millions of dollars in payments, and hold doctors involved in the hospital’s former program accountable.
Texas Family Project is proud to stand with Attorney General Paxton in his relentless efforts to protect Texas children from the radicalization of medicine and the dangerous ideology that tells children their biological sex can be changed.
In May, Attorney General Paxton announced the initial agreement with Texas Children’s Hospital following a years-long investigation. The newly released settlement terms provide additional details about what the hospital must now do.
Under the agreement, Texas Children’s must establish the nation's first multidisciplinary Detransition Clinic within three months. For the first five years, the clinic must provide qualifying care free of charge to patients who previously received gender-transition treatments. The clinic will be advertised on the hospital's website and will provide services intended to address the medical consequences of previous interventions.
The hospital must also pay $9 million to the State of Texas, with additional funds going to the whistleblower and her legal expenses. Five doctors associated with the hospital are barred from future involvement with the medical system under the agreement.
Texas lawmakers recognized that children are uniquely vulnerable and that irreversible or potentially life-altering medical interventions deserve extraordinary scrutiny. Texas law now prohibits certain gender-transition procedures for minors, and Attorney General Paxton has repeatedly made clear that his office will enforce those protections.
In March, Paxton issued a legal opinion concluding that Texas' prohibition also applies to licensed mental-health providers who facilitate prohibited transition procedures involving children. His office warned that professionals who facilitate illegal transition procedures can face serious consequences, including loss of their licenses and eligibility for public funds.
Texas will not allow children to be used as experiments for radical gender ideology.
What About the Children Who Were Already Harmed?
This is perhaps the most important part of the settlement.
Stopping harmful practices going forward is essential. But what happens to the young people who have already undergone these interventions?
That is where the detransition clinic becomes so significant.
The settlement specifically requires Texas Children’s to establish a multidisciplinary clinic capable of providing care to people who previously underwent gender-transition procedures. The services contemplated by the agreement include medical care and other forms of treatment addressing the consequences of previous interventions.
For years, the cultural establishment has pushed the idea that children should be encouraged to question their biological sex and that medical intervention is an appropriate response.
Texas is increasingly rejecting that philosophy.
Children need loving parents, stable families, sound medical advice, and the freedom to grow up without being pressured into adult ideological battles.
Thank You, Attorney General Paxton.
Attorney General Ken Paxton deserves tremendous credit for pursuing this investigation and refusing to back down.
His office spent years investigating Texas Children's Hospital and ultimately secured an agreement that will prevent prohibited gender-transition procedures on minors, recover millions of dollars, remove physicians implicated in the controversy from the hospital system, and create a first-of-its-kind clinic for those seeking care after previous transition procedures.
We will continue fighting for a culture where children are protected rather than experimented on, where parents, not LGBT activists, have the primary responsibility for raising their children, and where biological reality is respected rather than denied.
