International Olympic Committee to Ban Biological Males from Participating in Women’s Events

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is reportedly preparing to ban biological males from competing in women’s Olympic events, a move aimed at protecting female athletes and ensuring fair competition ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Currently, each international federation has the authority to decide whether male athletes can compete against women. Famously, in the 2024 games, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, a biological male, was able to pummel his way to a gold medal. He beat a slew of women during the competition, including Italy's Angela Carini, who had to forfeit the gold medal match after one hit from her male opponent. Other male athletes were allowed to compete in weightlifting and track.

The IOC’s rumored rule change would create a standardized policy across all sports, ensuring women’s sports are only for biological females. This policy would protect female athletes and acknowledge the undeniable biological differences between men and women. On average, men possess higher muscle mass, greater cardiovascular capacity, and increased bone density, giving them a clear competitive advantage in physical sports.

Allowing biological males to compete against women undermines decades of progress in women’s sports. Women train rigorously to compete at the highest levels, and their opportunities to succeed should not be stolen by men. By enforcing a ban on biological males in women’s events, the IOC would reaffirm women's sports should only be for women.

The upcoming 2028 Olympics could mark a turning point in international sports policy, setting a precedent for how transgender participation is handled in elite competition. By taking this step, the IOC would send a clear message: women’s sports are meant for women. The IOC must make the right call, because women deserve nothing less.
