Every once in a while, a story cuts through the noise and reminds us what’s actually at stake in the fight for life. Seattle Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall’s life story is one of those moments.
Derick Hall was born at just 23 weeks. According to accounts shared by his family, he entered the world without a heartbeat. By every clinical metric, his life was considered expendable. Yet doctors and nurses fought. His family prayed. And because people chose to value life even in the most fragile circumstances, Derick Hall is alive today, and standing as a professional athlete about to compete in the Super Bowl.
At 23 weeks, Derick Hall was smaller than many abortion advocates would deem “viable.” Under the logic pushed by the radical abortion industry, his life could have been legally ended without consequence in much of the country. Instead, his life was protected.
This is the truth the pro-life movement has been saying all along: life has value, not because of size, strength, convenience, or prognosis, but because it is life.
Here in Texas, we have taken bold steps to defend the unborn, and those efforts are working. But the fight is far from over! Abortion activists, out-of-state special interests, and corporate-funded lobbyists continue to target our laws, our courts, and our culture.
Despite our state criminalizing abortion, abortion pills are still being shipped to Texas doorsteps from out of state entities. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued multiple out of state “medical professionals” for distributing these pills.
Medical advancements now save babies born earlier than ever before. Neonatal care continues to improve. Yet instead of responding by expanding protections for life, the abortion industry responds by demanding more abortions with exceptions.
We believe stories like his must be told. They remind lawmakers why pro-life legislation matters. They remind voters why the pro-life movement matters. And they remind families facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies that their child’s life has purpose, often far beyond what anyone can imagine in the moment.
Texas must continue to lead!. We must defend our pro-life laws, support pregnancy resource centers, and elect leaders who know protecting life is not negotiable.
